Job Summary
The Laboratory Billing Support Representative is responsible for providing billing support to Laboratory departments. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Serving as a liaison between other departments for patient charges, failed claims, medical necessity and coding compliance issues.
- Obtaining accurate diagnosis by working with referring physician offices.
- Researching claims and billing issues and assisting with resolution.
- Producing and maintaining various departmental reports.
- Preparation and mailing of billing statements to contract entities.
Required Qualifications: - High school diploma or GED
- Two years of billing support experience
- Data entry and Microsoft Office skills, including Excel, Word and Outlook
- Must be able to type at least 40 words per minute
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Demonstrated ability to effectively deal with staff, physicians, patients and visitors using a professional and courteous manner
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience using STAR/HBOC, ePREMIS, SoftBill Plus, and RIS software
- Knowledge of general accounting
- Prior experience in a health care setting
- Some college coursework
